Cheatin' at Birth Classes...

How to cheat & NOT take a birth class; not generally recommended, but I have attended more than one set of parents that had never taken a class & was happy with the outcome at the birth of their child.

I totally agree that women can have a great experience and not go to classes... just had a client like this recently - a homebirth, even... with a first baby! She was well-read and well-Net-connected, so she wasn't walking into it blindly.

I also think some women prepare *too* much, believing that if they know just the right information, know *all* (what they might consider all), they can out-think the pain and stay ahead of the labor experience with their heads on. I have to explain to such moms that labor isn't a mental experience, but a spiritual/emotional/PRIMAL one and the less they think IN labor, the less pain and faster the labor *tends* to (not guaranteed to) go.

Loved your post and great book recommendations. :)
