These points are full of relaxin hormones—the pelvis literally begins falling apart at about thirty-four weeks of pregnancy. In addition to this mobile, loose, stretchy pelvis, nature has given human beings the added bonus of having a moldable, pliable, shrinkable baby head.
Like a steamer tray for a cooking pot has folding plates that adjust it to any size pot, so do these four overlapping plates that form the infant’s skull adjust to fit the mother’s body. Every woman who is alive today is the result of millions of years of natural selection.

Benefits of giving birth on a Birth Stool / Birthing Chair
Benefits: Excellent use of gravity, easy for attendant to see birth, opens pelvis, takes pressure off back, known as one of the best positions to facilitate a difficult birth, helps mother to focus pushing efforts.
Drawbacks: Legs and bottom may fall asleep, can cause a quick birth and tearing, requires midwife or doctor to provide a birth stool. (unless you make or buy your own! See link below!

The 10th birth I attended was as grand as all the others. Mom is a "what-a-woman", for sure! Determined to give birth w/o the use of drugs, she delivered her child in 14 minutes! (from beginning of pushing to birth)

I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself,but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second-grade Classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell..... So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, Show-and-tell is pretty tame Kids bring in pet turtles, model Airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome. Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid,takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke , my baby brother and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.' 'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord..'
She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to Laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement. 'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans.
'She walked Around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning. 'My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie Down in bed like this.' Then Erica lies down with her back against the Wall. 'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in Case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled
all over the bed, Like psshhheew!' This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much! 'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, Breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten.
Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there.' Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat.
I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's Show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case
another 'Middle Wife' comes along.
We had a great time at the Birth Circle last night. Mothers that were pregnant, had a newborn & are veteran moms attended. We discussed nursing in public, how to "wear" your baby with demonstrations & talked about the new book: "Homebirth in the Hospital" that will soon be added to my lending library! We accept donations that were given generously by caring individuals and redistribute them to families who are in need of assistance.

Through providing cloth diapers and other natural living alternatives to low income families, we aspire to increase the use of reusable items on a larger scale, therefore helping improve the environment.

I am not attached to outcomes. I want to support families in whatever decisions they make, as long as they are making fully informed decisions.
That being said, I also believe in the wisdom of women's bodies and the birth process. As a doula, I am there to be a continuous, calm, and supportive presence who can remind parents of their knowledge, their wisdom, and their preferences- no matter how they are being defined. I can also give massages, be a gopher, a photographer and an all around useful extra set of hands. When hiring a doula it has a lot to do with the chemistry of the mom and the support person... if you are interested in my services, drop me an email and we can set up a time to talk and to see if we mesh well.
